I have such wonderful memories of dyeing Easter eggs when I was a little girl. This is a tradition that I look forward to each year with my three boys. Times have changed and the yucky toxic dyes are out. We do it a little different now so I wanted to share our success with you. These eggs turn out so beautiful that you will want to use them as a centerpiece for your table in a basket or dough bowl. Have fun!
2 dozen eggs, boiled, cleaned and dried.
To make the dye simply bring the mixture to a boil and allow to simmer for 1 hour. If you are just using juice this part is not necessary. Remove any bulk and pour liquid into large enough containers to place the eggs in for dying. Mason jars work well for this.
Once the liquid has cooled add the eggs to the dye and allow to sit until desired color is reached. This could be anywhere from 4 hours to overnight. Remove with a slotted spoon and allow to dry.
For yellow eggs:
2 teaspoons ground turmeric
2 cups boiling water
1 T. white vinegar
For blue eggs:
1 cup sliced red cabbage
2 cups boiling water
1 T. white vinegar
For orange eggs:
4 yellow onion skins
2 cups boiling water
1 T. white vinegar
For green eggs:
3 cups spinach leaves
2 cups boiling water
1 T. white vinegar
For purple eggs:
2 cups grape juice
1 T. white vinegar
For beautiful brown eggs:
2 cups coffee (dark roast)
1 T. white vinegar
For red eggs:
1 cup raspberries or cherries
2 cups boiling water
1 T. white vinegar
